Prototypes and Mapping

Car vs Aliens

Car vs Aliens was created so that I could try my hand at vehicles, whilst incorporating twin stick shooter, and bullet hell elements into it.

The objective was to create a vehicle that felt arcade-like in its handling, but to still be controllable enough to use as a weapons platform. A few of the main inspirations for this prototype were Body Harvest (N64) for the gameplay, Starship Troopers for the theme, and Duke Nukem/80s gung-ho action heroes for the tongue in cheek style of the character.

Big Vegas in Bigger Trouble

This prototype was created as my take on a more typical 90s style platformer (Specifically Crash Bandicoot.)

The main objective of the prototype was to create two different levels that could be used to display how a full game could play. They both begin quite simple, becoming progressively harder as the level progresses, allowing the player to learn and adapt as they play through.

Quake Mapping

City Streets is my second attempt at creating a map for Quake. A little more ambitious than my previous map, City Streets is much larger than the previous map, and in my own opinion better designed.

As Level Design is one of my passions, and I love old school shooters, I thought ‘Hey, why not create some old school shooter maps?’. So that’s exactly what I did. Downloading the Trenchbroom software, I jumped straight into it to create my very first Quake map. The level follows the theme of how a cult down in the bayou has opened up a portal to an otherworldly landscape full of dimensional horrors and all sorts of other nasties.
